BUFFALO, NY—Brockport (26-9-1/15-5) rebounded from a 5-1 loss in the opener, claiming the nightcap, 4-2, against host Buffalo State (22-10/13-5) in a SUNYAC doubleheader today at Bengal Field.
Brockport held a slim 1-0 advantage before Buffalo State took the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning with three runs and added another two in the sixth.
Nicole Maher (Waterloo/Waterloo) was 1 for 3 with two RBIs.
Nicole Sabuda (Orchard Park/Orchard Park) was also 1 for 3 with a single and
Kyrstin Lekki (N. Tonawanda/Niagara-Wheatfield) hit a home run in the bottom six to give the Bengals their final two runs. Sabuda also earned the win, allowing eight hits and one earned run.
Buffalo State fell behind early in the nightcap, as the Golden Eagles plated four runs in the first inning and held on for the win.
Jenna Frieling (E. Amherst/Williamsville North) took the loss on the mound, allowing eight hits and tossing just two strikeouts.
Kaylee Lekki (N. Tonawanda/Niagara-Wheatfield) was 1 for 3 with a double, while Jolene Banch (Cheektowaga/Maryvale), Sabuda and
Marissa Mariano (Williamsville/St. Mary) all singled for Buffalo State.
Buffalo State is back in action tomorrow when it travels to Oswego for a doubleheader with Oneonta at 1 p.m.
