BUFFALO, NY—Buffalo State (12-6) plated 13 runs in a two-game sweep against visiting RIT (5-13) in a non-conference doubleheader today at Bengal Field, winning 7-2 and 6-3.
Buffalo State opened the scoring in the opening game with a pair of runs in the fifth inning, and then blew the game open with a five-run sixth to take a 7-0 lead. RIT scored twice in the seventh, but could not sustain the rally.
Julie Joyce (E. Pembroke/Pembroke) led the Bengals' offense going 3 for 4 with a grand slam and five RBIs.
Marissa Mariano (Williamsville/Mt. St. Mary) was 2 for 3.
Kaylee Lekki (N. Tonawanda/Niagara-Wheatfield) added a double.
Aimee Fisher (Hamburg/Frontier) earned the win, giving up just four hits with four strikeouts, and helped her cause with an RBI single at the plate.
RIT took a quick 3-0 lead before Buffalo State's first plate appearance in the second game, but the Bengals roared back with six unanswered runs to complete the sweep.
Becky Shank (Williamsville/Williamsville East) was 2 for 3 with a triple and two runs scored.
Nicole Sabuda (Orchard Park/Orchard Park) was also 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored. Joyce was 1 for 3 with an RBI and two runs scored.
Jenna Frieling (E. Amherst/Williamsville North) notched the win, allowing six hits with three strikeouts.
Buffalo State will return to SUNYAC play tomorrow at Cortland.
