Softball Blanked by Cortland at NCAA Regional

Kyrstin Lekki had one of the Bengals two hits
(BOX SCORE)

ITHACA, NY—Top-seeded Cortland (42-6) scored the only run it would need on a home run on the first pitch of the bottom of the first inning, and went on to defeat No. 4 Buffalo State (30-13), 3-0, in both teams' second game of the double-elimination NCAA Regional today at Ithaca's Kostrinsky Field.

The Bengals' only two hits of the game came in the form of back-to-back one-out singles by Marissa Mariano (Williamsville/Mt. St. Mary) and Kyrstin Lekki (N. Tonawanda/Niagara-Wheatfield) in the second inning, but they came away empty. Cortland plated its second run in the bottom of the inning to extend the lead and added an insurance marker on a sacrifice fly in the sixth.

Jenna Frieling (E. Amherst/Williamsville North) took the loss for Buffalo State, pitching five innings, allowing seven hits and three earned runs. Aimee Fisher (Hamburg/Frontier) entered in the sixth and got three outs on no hits.

Buffalo State will next play tomorrow at noon against the winner of today's 4 p.m. game between No. 6 Keuka and No. 3 St. John Fisher.
