BUFFALO, NY—Buffalo State (8-8/3-6) protected the ball committing a season-low 10 turnovers and pulled away in the second half to claim a 61-51 victory over visiting Brockport (4-12/2-7) in a SUNYAC game tonight at the Sports Arena.
Staci McElroy (Saratoga Springs/Saratoga Springs) netted 15 points, including 12 in the second half, and grabbed nine rebounds.
Jessica Clark (Fulton/G. Ray Bodley) also scored 15 points and had three assists.
Marlena Edwards (Buffalo/daVinci) added a career-high 11 points, and
Dee Layne (Brooklyn/E. NY Family Academy) pulled down a career-best 16 rebounds.
Whitney Smith (Webster/Webster Thomas) surpassed the 1,000 career point plateau and led the Golden Eagles with 20 points on the day. Rachel Csakany (Schenectady/Schenectady) added 15 points for Brockport.
The Golden Eagles led by as many as five in the first half and took a 25-24 lead into the intermission. Buffalo State claimed the lead for good with a 17-6 run early in the final period and held the lead for the victory, snapping a five-game skid.
Buffalo State will host Fredonia for another SUNYAC game on Friday at 6 p.m.
