FREDONIA, NY— Shane Avery (Fort Covington, NY/Salmon River) scored the game-winner with just 23 seconds remaining in overtime to give Buffalo State (1-2/1-2) a 2-1 win over host Fredonia (1-4/1-2) in SUNYAC action tonight.

The Bengals opened the scoring late in the first period when Justin Knee (Centralia, ON/South Huron) gave Buffalo State a 1-0 lead with a power-play goal at 18:58. Fredonia knotted the game in the second stanza and neither team found the back of the net again until Avery scored his first collegiate goal in the overtime period. Zach Hale (Sandy, UT/Liberty), James Durham (Marilla, NY/St. Francis) and Nicholas Petriello (St. Catharines, ON/Holy Cross) all had assists.

Fredonia outshot Buffalo State 40-38, while the Bengals were 1 for 5 with the extra skater. Kevin Carr (Unionville, ON/Unionville) stopped 39 shots in net for Buffalo State.

Buffalo State is back in action next Friday when it hosts Brockport at 7 p.m.
