Slow Start Dooms Women’s Basketball Against Oswego

BUFFALO, NY—Oswego (5-0/2-0) converted a dominating first half into a 70-57 road victory over Buffalo State (3-3/0-2) in a SUNYAC contest today at the Sports Arena.

Staci McElroy (Saratoga Springs/Saratoga Springs) led Buffalo State with a double-double, scoring 19 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Barb Kiliszek (Depew/Lancaster) was the only other Bengal to score in double figures, added 17 points and five steals. Dee Layne (Brooklyn/E. NY Family) also pulled down 10 boards.

Buffalo State shot a dismal 22-percent from the field for the first half. Oswego scored the first eight points of the game and raced to a 38-18 advantage after the opening 20 minutes. The Bengals attempted to claw their way back into the game, cutting deficit to nine at 53-44 with just over seven minutes remaining, but could not pull any closer. Buffalo State finished the game hitting 32-percent from the field, compared to 47-percent shooting by the Lakers.

Buffalo State will host Allegheny for a non-conference game on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
