PLATTSBURGH, NY—Nationally-ranked No. 5 Plattsburgh (15-4-4/11-2-1) scored two goals in 41 seconds late in the first period and then held off visiting Buffalo State (6-16-1/2-12) for a 4-2 win in a SUNYAC contest tonight at Stafford Arena.

D'Arcy Thomas (Gatineau, PQ/Philemon Wright) got the Bengals on the board with a power-play tally early in the second period, but the Cardinals answered later in the frame. Justin Knee (Centralia, ON/S. Huron) pulled Buffalo State back to within one with another power-play marker with just under eight minutes remaining. The Bengals pressed for the equalizer, but Plattsburgh put the game out of reach with an empty-netter with 43 seconds to play to seal the win.

Johnathan Sourwine (Redwood, NY/Alexandria) was solid between the pipes for a third-consecutive start for the Bengals, allowing just three goals while making 32 saves. Plattsburgh outshot Buffalo State 36-17 for the game.

Buffalo State will play at Potsdam tomorrow at 7 p.m.
