Staci McElroy (Saratoga Springs/Saratoga Springs) had 20 points, 10 rebounds and four assists as Buffalo State (11-12/6-10) defeated host Brockport (5-18/3-13), 73-66 to clinch a berth in the SUNYAC playoffs tonight at Tuttle North Arena.
Jessica Clark (Fulton/G. Ray Bodley) scored 18 points and added five assists, and
Kristin Ritch (Dobbs Ferry/Dobbs Ferry) added 16 points and hit four free throws in the final minute.
In a game that had 17 lead changes, Buffalo State led by seven early in the first half, but the score was knotted at 25-25 at the intermission. Brockport led for most of the second half and was ahead 53-48 with just over six minutes remaining. The Bengals finally took the lead for good with 2:58 remaining, and then Clark hit a 3-pointer seconds later to push the lead to four. The Bengals hit 6 of 6 free throws in the final minute to seal the win. Buffalo State was 6 of 13 from 3-point range for the game, outscoring the Golden Eagles 18-9 from beyond the arc. The Bengals also connected on 23 of 29 free throws (79-percent).
Buffalo State will host first-place Cortland in the WBCA Pink Zone game this Friday at 6 p.m.
