Clark’s Free Throws Push Women’s Basketball Past Oswego, 60-58

Senior Jessica Clark hit two free throws with two seconds remaining
(BOX SCORE)

BUFFALO, NY—Jessica Clark (Fulton/G. Ray Bodley) hit two free throws with two seconds remaining on the clock to give Buffalo State (12-13/7-11) a 60-58 victory over visiting Oswego (13-12/10-8) in the SUNYAC regular season finale this afternoon at the Sports Arena.

The win snapped the Bengals' 13-game losing streak against the Lakers that dated back to 2004.

Clark led the Bengals with 15 points and four assists, and Staci McElroy (Saratoga Springs/Saratoga Springs) chipped in 12 points. Dee Layne (Brooklyn/E. NY Family) added eight points, seven rebounds and four steals.

Kayla Ryan (Schaghticoke/Hoosick Valley) led Oswego with 21 points, and Colleen McCready (Pittsford/Pittsford-Mendon) had eight points and nine rebounds.

Buffalo State led by as many as 11 points in the opening half, but the Lakers climbed back in the game and McCready hit a buzzer-beater to pull within two at 25-23 at the intermission. The Bengals pushed the lead back to double-figures in the second frame, but the Lakers crept back again and finally evened the score at 58-58 with 54 seconds remaining. After a missed opportunity by the Bengals, Oswego launched a potential game-winning shot that was off the mark and Clark was fouled while gathering the rebound. Clark made both attempts from the charity stripe, before Oswego heaved a half-court shot at the buzzer that came up short.

Buffalo State clinched the No. 7 seed and will visit No. 2 Oneonta on Tuesday evening for a SUNYAC Quarterfinal game at 6 p.m.
