CLERMONT, Fla.—Buffalo State (2-0) opened its 2010 campaign with a pair of victories today at the USA National Training Center, defeating Grinnell (1-3), 4-2, and Trinity (3-5), 7-3.

The Bengals scored all four runs against Grinnell in the third inning and road the strong arm of Jenna Frieling (E. Amherst/Williamsville North) who tossed a one-hitter with seven strikeouts and no earned runs. Kyrstin Lekki (N. Tonawanda/Niagara-Wheatfield) paced Buffalo State's offense, going 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI, and Niki Rieman (Derby/Lakeshore) was 1 for 3 with an RBI.

Lekki repeated her offensive feat in the second game, helping lift Buffalo State over Trinity, again going 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI. Freshman Sam Strapason (Williamsville/Williamsville South) was 3 for 4 with an RBI, and fellow freshman Breanna Fenski (Cheektowaga/Maryvale) was 2 for 5 with a triple and an RBI. Transfer Tricia Kennery (Williamsville/Williamsville North) earned her first win as a Bengal, throwing six-plus innings, allowing 11 hits with two strikeouts.

The Bengals will be back in action tomorrow morning against a pair of nationally-ranked teams in No. 14 Eastern Connecticut and No. 25 Wisconsin-Whitewater at 9:30 and 11:30 a.m. respectively.
