CLERMONT, Fla.—Buffalo State (6-6) concluded its 12-game visit to the USA National Training Center with a pair of defeats today, falling 14-5 in six innings against Manchester (5-6-1), before losing 7-6 to Oberlin (1-11) in the nightcap.
In the first game, Manchester avenged a 2-0 loss from Saturday, by converting 11 hits and six Buffalo State errors into 14 runs.
Niki Rieman (Derby/Lakeshore) was 3 for 3 with a double and an RBI at the plate, but got chased off the mound, taking the loss after just one-plus innings of work, allowing two hits and three runs.
Jenna Frieling (E. Amherst/Williamsville North) came on in relief, but could not settle things down, giving up nine hits and 11 runs (six earned), including a pair of homeruns.
Lindsay Goff (Patterson/Brewster) was 2 for 3 at the dish with a double and two runs scored, and
Sam Strapason (Williamsville/Williamsville South) was also 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI.
Oberlin picked up its first win of the season in the late game, regrouping from a 19-5 loss at the hands of Buffalo State yesterday. Oberlin took the 7-6 with a two-out RBI single in the top of the seventh. The Bengals got their leadoff batter on base in the home-half of the seventh, but after a sacrifice bunt moved the runner to second, a line-drive double-play ended the game. The Bengals had erased a four-run deficit to even the score at 6-6 with a pair of runs in each the fourth and fifth innings. Goff was 3 for 3 with a double and two runs scored.
Julie Joyce (E. Pembroke/Pembroke) was 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs. Strapason was 2 for 4, and
Krista Baker (Dunkirk/Dunkirk) added a triple and three RBIs.
Erin Kowalske (Orchard Park/Orchard Park) started the game in the circle, surrendering six runs, just one earned, on five hits in 3 1/3 innings.
Tricia Kennery (Williamsville/Williamsville North) came on in relief and was charged with her first loss of the season, giving up six hits and one run in 3 2/3 innings.
Buffalo State will open SUNYAC play with a doubleheader this Friday at Geneseo starting at 3 p.m.
