BUFFALO, NY—Plattsburgh (13-8/2-1) swooped into Buffalo State (10-10/3-3) and took both games in a SUNYAC doubleheader today, belting out 20 hits in 5-1 and 9-7 victories.

The Cardinals finally opened the scoring in the first game with a run in the fifth inning. Plattsburgh added a run in the sixth and then blew the game open with three more runs in the top of the fifth inning. The Bengals scored their only run in the bottom of the seventh inning when Lindsay Goff (Brewster/Patterson) drove in Kyrstin Lekki (N. Tonawanda/Niagara-Wheatfield) with a sacrifice fly to center field. Lekki recorded half of the Bengals four hits in the game, going 2 for 3. Jenna Frieling (E. Amherst/Williamsville North) suffered the loss, allowing nine hits with five strikeouts.

In the late game, Plattsburgh continued to roll, jumping out to a 5-0 lead in the top of the fourth. The Bengals stormed back with a run in the bottom of the inning, and plated six more runs in the fifth to pull ahead 7-5. The Cardinals bounced back, however, scoring four more runs in the seventh on three hits and an error, and held on for the win with a game-ending double play. Julie Joyce (E. Pembroke/Pembroke) paced the Bengals' bats, going 3 for 5 with a double and two RBIs. Freshman Breanna Fenski (Cheektowaga/Maryvale) was 1 for 3 with a three-run home run. Sam Strapason (Williamsville/Williamsville South) added a double and two RBIs, and Lekki drew four walks, including two intentional passes. Niki Rieman (Derby/Lakeshore) was charged with the loss, surrendering four runs, including three earned, on three hits in two innings of relief. Tricia Kennery (Williamsville/Williamsville North) started the game, allowing eight hits and five runs with five strikeouts in five innings.

Buffalo State will continue SUNYAC play with a home doubleheader against Potsdam tomorrow. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
