BUFFALO, NY—Buffalo State (11-11/4-4) overcame a 3-0 deficit in the second game to earn a split against visiting Potsdam (5-10/2-3), winning 4-3 after falling 4-2 in the opener, in a SUNYAC doubleheader today at Bengal Field.

In the opening game, the Bengals took the early lead, but could only convert five first-inning hits and a Potsdam error into a 1-0 advantage. The Bears evened the score with a solo-homer in the fourth, and took a 3-1 lead with a pair of unearned runs in the fifth. The Bengals pulled to within one with a run in the sixth, but Potsdam added an insurance marker in the last inning and held on for the win. Buffalo State managed just four hits over the final six innings. Breanna Fenski (Cheektowaga/Maryvale) was 2 for 3 with a double, Kyrstin Lekki (N. Tonawanda/Niagara-Wheatfield) was 2 for 4, and Sam Strapason (Williamsville/Williamsville South) also doubled. Sara Morse (Painted Post/Corning West) and Lindsay Goff (Brewster/Patterson) both had RBI singles for Buffalo State. Tricia Kennery (Williamsville/Williamsville North) suffered the loss, allowing eight hits and two earned runs, with a season-best eight strikeouts.

Buffalo State overcame a three-run second-inning home run by Potsdam in the second game. The Bengals trailed 3-2 entering the bottom of the last, and loaded the bases with no outs on a single and two walks. Niki Rieman (Derby/Lakeshore) grounded to second base, and the throw home got away allowing the tying and winning runs to score. Rieman finished 1 for 4 with a double and two RBIs. Morse was 2 for 4 with a run scored, and Krista Baker (Dunkirk/Dunkirk) was 2 for 3 with a run scored. Jenna Frieling (E. Amherst/Williamsville North) was the winning pitcher, allowing 11 hits with five strikeouts.

Buffalo State will play at home again on Tuesday in a non-conference doubleheader against Allegheny at 3:30 p.m.
