Softball Drops Two at University of Rochester

ROCHESTER, NY—Buffalo State (13-13) had its three-game winning streak snapped, committing 10 errors in a pair of losses at the University of Rochester (15-10) today, falling 4-3 and 8-3, in a non-conference twin bill.

Buffalo State scored a run in the top of the seventh of the opening game to take a 3-2 lead, but the Yellowjackets took advantage of a hit and two Bengal errors to plate a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning for the win. Buffalo State committed five errors in the game. Sara Morse (Painted Post/Corning West) had two of the Bengals' eight hits, going 2 for 4 with an RBI, and Breanna Fenski (Cheektowaga/Maryvale) was 1 for 3 with an RBI double. Jenna Frieling (E. Amherst/Williamsville North) took the loss, allowing eight hits, but just one earned run with five strikeouts.

The Bengals scored three runs on four hits in the fourth inning of the nightcap to take a 3-1 lead, but Rochester stormed back including a four-run sixth to pull away for the win. Buffalo State committed five errors for the second-straight game and gave up 13 hits. Morse was 2 for 4 again with a run scored, but the Bengals were only able to produce six total hits. Kyrstin Lekki (N. Tonawanda/Niagara-Wheatfield), Kaylee Lekki (N. Tonawanda/Niagara-Wheatfield ), and Sam Strapason (Williamsville/Williamsville South) were all 1 for 3 with an RBI. Tricia Kennery (Williamsville/Williamsville North) was charged with the loss, giving up 11 hits and eight runs (four earned) in five innings. Niki Rieman (Derby/Lakeshore) threw one inning of scoreless, two-hit relief.

Buffalo State will return to SUNYAC play on Friday with a home doubleheader against Cortland at 3 p.m.
