CORTLAND, NY—Cortland (9-2/5-0), the No. 8-ranked team in the nation, handed Buffalo State (6-4/2-1) its first SUNYAC loss of the season, 16-9, in a rematch of last year's league championship game today at the SUNY Cortland Stadium Complex.

Karen Shaddock (Corning/Corning East) led Buffalo State with three goals and two assists. Katie Henderson (Lakeview/Frontier) also scored three goals. Mariah DeBolt (Waterloo/Waterloo) added a pair of goals and Kendyl Clarkson (Painted Post/Corning West) picked up a goal and three assists.

After the teams traded goals to open the game, Cortland scored seven in a row and never looked back. Buffalo State trailed 16-6 in the second half before scoring the game's final three goals in the closing minutes. The Red Dragons held a 34-23 advantage in shots. Ashley O'Brien (Honeoye Falls/Honeoye Falls-Lima) made six saves for Buffalo State.

Buffalo State will next host Fredonia on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
