GENESEO, NY—Buffalo State (8-6/2-0) used sound pitching and strong defense to open SUNYAC play with a pair of victories today, defeating host Geneseo (7-7/0-2), 3-1 and 6-0.
Jenna Frieling (E. Amherst/Williamsville North) tossed a three-hitter and allowed no earned runs with two strikeouts in the opening game. After both teams plated runs in the first inning, Buffalo State pulled ahead with a run in the third, and added an insurance marker in the fourth. Geneseo only advance one runner past first base after the first inning.
Julie Joyce (E. Pembroke/Pembroke) was 2 for 4 with a run scored.
Sam Strapason (Williamsville/Williamsville South) went 1 for 4 with an RBI, and
Breanna Fenski (Cheektowaga/Maryvale) had a double for the Bengals.
Buffalo State scored in pairs in the nightcap, finding home twice in the first, twice in the third and twice more in the fifth to pull away.
Tricia Kennery (Williamsville/Williamsville North) tossed the shutout, scattering seven hits with three strikeouts. Buffalo State had a total of six hits, including a 3 for 3 with a double performance by
Kyrstin Lekki (N. Tonawanda/Niagara-Wheatfield). Strapason was 1 for 3 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
Lindsay Goff (Patterson/Brewster) and Fenski also added RBI singles.
Buffalo State will hit the road again tomorrow for another SUNYAC double-dip at Brockport starting at 1 p.m.
