Softball Bounces Back for Split at New Paltz

NEW PALTZ, NY—Buffalo State (17-17/8-8) rebounded after a 5-3 loss in the opener to earn a split at New Paltz (16-12/6-4) with a 6-1 win in the second half of today's SUNYAC doubleheader.

Buffalo State led 2-1 early in the opening game, but New Paltz belted out 12 total hits and overtook the Bengals. Buffalo State had six hits, including two by Lindsay Goff (Brewster/Patterson), including a home run and three RBIs. Breanna Fenski (Cheektowaga/Maryvale) and Sam Strapason (Williamsville/Williamsville South) each doubled in the game. Tricia Kennery (Williamsville/Williamsville North) took the loss in the circle for the Bengals.

New Paltz scored first in the late game, but the Bengals roared back with six runs on 11 hits and four Hawks' errors. Fenski was 3 for 4 with an RBI, and Goff and Krista Baker (Dunkirk/Dunkirk) each went 2 for 4 with an RBI. Laken Pogorzelski (Dunkirk/Dunkirk) also had a double and a run scored. Jenna Frieling (E. Amherst/Williamsville North) allowed just five hits and struck out a pair in the complete-game win.

Buffalo State will next host Nazareth for a pair of non-conference games on Tuesday.
