BUFFALO, NY— Kyrstin Lekki (N. Tonawanda/Niagara-Wheatfield) was 4 for 4 with three home runs and three intentional walks as Buffalo State (10-8) splashed its way to a split at RIT (9-7) to a non-conference twin bill today, winning 11-7 in the opener, before falling 6-4 in the nightcap.

In the opener, the Bengals pounded out 17 hits, including eight extra-base knocks, and plated 11 runs. Lekki was perfect at the plate, going 3 for 3 with a pair of solo home runs. Breanna Fenski (Cheektowaga/Maryvale) also sent one out of the park, going 2 for 4 with two RBIs. Laken Pogorzelski (Dunkirk/Dunkirk) was 3 for 3 with an RBI, and Julie Joyce (E. Pembroke/Pembroke) was 3 for 5 with two doubles and two RBIs. Sam Strapason (Williamsville/Williamsville South) also had a double and three RBIs. Jenna Frieling (E. Amherst/Williamsville North) picked up the win, despite allowing 11 hits and seven earned runs with five strikeouts.

Lekki was homered again in the second game, and then was issued three consecutive intentional passes, but the Tigers capitalized on a four-run fourth inning to grab a two-run victory. Pogorzelski added an RBI single for the Bengals, who had just five hits for the game. Tricia Kennery (Williamsville/Williamsville North) suffered the loss, allowing seven hits and five runs (four earned) in four innings. Niki Rieman (Derby/Lakeshore) came on in relief and allowed two hits and one run in the final three innings.

Buffalo State is scheduled to play Potsdam in a SUNYAC doubleheader on Friday at 3 p.m.
