BUFFALO, NY—Buffalo State (10-5/6-2) used a 6-0 run to overcome an early deficit and defeat visiting Geneseo (8-7/5-3), 13-9, in the SUNYAC regular season finale today at Coyer Field.
Karen Shaddock (Corning/Corning East) and
Kendyl Clarkson (Painted Post/Corning West) had eight points each to lead Buffalo State. Shaddock netted five goals and had three assists, and Clarkson scored once and set up seven others.
Ashley Caporizzo (Liverpool/CNS) and
Molly Seifritz (Syracuse/Henninger) scored a pair of goals each, and
Katie Henderson (Lakeview/Frontier) and
Brittany Nagowski (Lancaster/Lancaster) also scored for the Bengals.
After trailing 4-2 early, Buffalo State kept Geneseo off the scoreboard for a stretch of 35 minutes, 11 seconds late in the first half and into the second to gain control of the game and never looked back. Geneseo held a 27-24 edge in shots, but Ashley O'Brien (Honeoye Falls/Honeoye Falls-Lima) made eight saves between the pipes for the Bengals.
Buffalo State clinched the No. 3 seed in the SUNYAC playoffs and will meet second-seeded Brockport in the semifinals next Friday at 3 p.m. at Cortland.
