ITHACA, NY—Buffalo State (20-20) ended its season with a pair of losses at Ithaca (26-12), falling 1-0 and 5-1, in a non-conference doubleheader at Kostrinsky Field.

Tricia Kennery (Williamsville/Williamsville North) threw a complete game six-hitter in the opener, but it was not enough as the Bengals could only muster three hits and no runs. Ithaca opened the game with a double and two singles to take a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Kennery settled in and allowed just three hits the rest of the way, but Buffalo State could not get a runner past second base all game.

Ithaca jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning of the second game, and went on to a four-run victory, despite a solo-homer by Kyrstin Lekki (N. Tonawanda/Niagara-Wheatfield) in the fourth. Breanna Fenski (Cheektowaga/Maryvale) was 2 for 3 for the Bengals. Niki Rieman (Derby/Lakeshore) took the loss in the circle, allowing 12 hits and three earned runs in the complete game effort.

Buffalo State's season officially came to an end today as it was eliminated from SUNYAC playoff contention with a pair of New Paltz wins at Potsdam. The Bengals, a year removed from winning a conference championship, placed seventh in the 10-team SUNYAC, with a league record of 9-9. It marks just the third time in 20 years the Bengals failed to qualify for the postseason and the first time since 2001.
