Women’s Lacrosse Falls to Brockport in SUNYAC Semifinal Shootout

Molly Seifritz registered her 100th career point in a seven-point outing
(BOX SCORE)

CORTLAND, NY—Buffalo State's (10-6) late rally was not enough as second-seeded and nationally-ranked No. 20 Brockport (12-2) defeated the third-seeded Bengals 20-15 in the SUNYAC semifinals today at the SUNY Cortland Stadium Complex.

Molly Seifritz (Syracuse/Henninger) had her best offensive day as a Bengal, leading Buffalo State with five goals and two assists, and became the ninth player in school history with 100 career points. Kendyl Clarkson (Painted Post/Corning West) scored twice and added seven assists. Karen Shaddock (Corning/Corning East) netted four goals, including her 50th of the season, bringing her season total to 53. Ashley Caporizzo (Liverpool/CNS) and Brittany Nagowski (Lancaster/Lancaster) also scored two goals each for the Bengals.

Buffalo State took an early 2-1 lead, but was never in front again. Brockport led 10-4 late in the opening period, but the Bengals netted a pair of goals in the final 30 seconds to close the gap. Brockport opened the second half nursing a four-goal lead and extended the advantage to 18-10 with just over eight minutes remaining in the game. The Bengals mounted a furious rally, scoring five goals in less than two minutes, including three goals in 34 seconds, to cut the margin to 18-15. The Golden Eagles got back on track, however, and scored the game's final two goals to preserve the victory.

Despite a 24-13 advantage in draw controls for Buffalo State, Brockport controlled much of the game, outshooting the Bengals 37-24, and had a 23-11 advantage in ground balls. Brockport also committed 23 fouls, compared to 35 by Buffalo State. Ashley O'Brien (Honeoye Falls/Honeoye Falls-Lima) made eight saves for the Bengals.

Seifritz and Clarkson were named to the All-Tournament Team.

The loss ends Buffalo State's season, marking the conclusion of the careers of Seifritz, Katie Henderson (Lakeview/Frontier), Marilyn Kush (East Aurora/East Aurora), Jen Tierney (Massapequa/Massapequa), Julia Gefell (Watertown/Watertown) and Alyssa VanDurme (Oswego/Oswego).
