Box Score BUFFALO, NY—Buffalo State (4-0) used a 22-0 run in the first half to pull away and cruise to a 64-50 victory over visiting Nazareth (2-2) in a non-conference game tonight at the Sports Arena. The Bengals' four wins to open the season marks the program's best start since going 5-0 to start the year in 2000-01.
Staci McElroy (Saratoga Springs/Saratoga Springs) was the Bengals' leading scorer with 15 points and she added nine rebounds and three assists.
Bianca Smiley (Amherst/Sweet Home) registered her second-consecutive double-double with 13 points and 12 boards.
Barb Kiliszek (Depew/Lancaster) added 10 points, six rebounds, six assists and six steals.
Kala Crawford (Middle Falls/Saratoga Springs) chipped in nine points and three steals.
Buffalo State trailed by six early, going 1 of 17 from the field to open the game. The Bengals rallied, however, assembling the 22-0 run during which they hit 9 of 11 shots from the field, including five 3-pointers. The Bengals led 36-18 at the half, and never let the Golden Flyers closer than 14 points in the final period.
The Bengals outrebounded the Golden Flyers, 46-35, and held a 20-14 scoring edge in the paint.
Buffalo State will return to action when it opens SUNYAC play at Oneonta on Dec. 2 at 6 p.m.
