FREDONIA, NY— Fredonia (6-15/4-11) shot 46-percent from the field and handed visiting Buffalo State (12-9/7-8) a 72-65 defeat in a SUNYAC game this evening at Steele Hall.

Staci McElroy (Saratoga Springs/Saratoga Springs) and Sarah Thompson (Delmar/Bethlehem) each had double-doubles for the Bengals in the losing effort. McElroy had 18 points and 13 rebounds, and Thompson had 18 points and 10 boards. Barb Kiliszek (Depew/Lancaster) added nine points, five assists and four steals. 

Fredonia outscored the Bengals 18-9 from 3-point range and 18-4 from the free-throw line. The Blue Devils led by as many as 10 in the first half, and led at halftime 32-25. The Bengals rallied to bring the game to within one at 11:06 in the second half, trailing 50-49. The Blue Devils pulled away the rest of the game, in large part to their clutch free-throw shooting going 10-13 down the stretch. 

Buffalo State will next visit Brockport on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
