PITTSFORD, NY— St. John Fisher (3-1) limited visiting Buffalo State (3-1) to just two goals over the final 22 minutes, and the Cardinals dealt the Bengals their first loss of the season, 19-17, this afternoon in a non-conference matchup.
Molly Seifritz (Syracuse/Henninger) and
Karen Shaddock (Corning/Corning East) led the Bengals with seven points each. Seifritz netted five goals and had two assists, while Shaddock tallied four goals and three assists.
Ashley Caporizzo (Liverpool/CNS) picked up three goals, and
Mariah DeBolt (Waterloo/Waterloo) and
Becca Martinez (Syracuse/Corcoran) each scored twice.
Jenn Shaddock (Corning/Corning East) added a single marker, and
Kendyl Clarkson (Painted Post/Corning West) dished out four assists. Clarkson became just the second player in school history to record 100 career assists.
Buffalo State held the largest lead of the game at 12-8 and carried a 13-10 advantage into halftime. After trading goals to open the second period, the Cardinals locked it down at the defensive end, and outscored the Bengals 8-3 over the final 25 minutes.
St. John Fisher outshot Buffalo State, 37-31.
Ashley O'Brien (Penfield/Honeoye Falls-Lima) made 11 saves in the loss for the Bengals.
Buffalo State will next play at Ithaca on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
