CLERMONT, Fla.—Buffalo State (1-1) blasted Kalamazoo (0-5) 13-2 in five innings and mounted a six-run seventh-inning rally, but fell short in the late game, falling 8-7 to Trinity (5-3), as the Bengals opened their season today at the US National Training Center.

The Bengals' bats sprung to action in their first outing of the season, belting out 14 hits in an impressive five-inning victory over Kalamazoo. Kystin Lekki (N. Tonawanda/Niagara-Wheatfield) and Krista Baker (Dunkirk/Dunkirk) led the Bengals' arsenal with perfect games at the plate. Lekki was 4 for 4 with three RBIs, and Baker was 3 for 3 with a pair of RBIs. Julie Joyce (E. Pembroke/Pembroke) was 2 for 3 with a triple and three RBIs, Laken Pogorzelski (Dunkirk/Dunkirk) had two hits including a double, and Sara Morse (Painted Post/Corning West) added two hits and two RBIs. Freshman Sam Tilkins (Grand Island/Grand Island) earned the win in her first collegiate game, allowing two hits and one run in four innings of work.

Buffalo State found itself behind 8-1 against Trinity entering the seventh inning, before storming back with six runs in the bottom of the last, but stranded the tying run on second base with a game-ending flyout. Baker was clutch at the plate again, going 2 for 3 with a pair of RBIs. Kystin Lekki also drove in a pair of runs, going 1 for 3, and freshman Jordan Dudish (Grand Island/Grand Island) was 2 for 3 with two RBIs. Kelly Homan (Shoreham/Shoreham Wading River) took the loss, surrendering eight hits and five runs in four innings. Junior Kaylee Lekki (N. Tonawanda/Niagara-Wheatfield) made her collegiate pitching debut and allowed five hits and three runs in three innings of relief.

Buffalo State will take on Southern Maine and Wisconsin-Whitewater tomorrow at 9:30 and 11:30 a.m. respectively.
