POMONA, Calif.—Buffalo State (3-3) opened its California trip with a 15-14 loss to host Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (7-2) in a game played in the rain and under lights tonight at Pomona-Pitzer.
Kendyl Clarkson (Painted Post/Corning West) led the Bengals with four goals and three assists.
Molly Seifritz (Liverpool/Henninger) also scored four time, while
Ashley Caporizzo (Liverpool/Cicero-N. Syracuse) had three goals.
Karen Shaddock (Corning/Corning East) finished with two goals and two assists, and
Mariah DeBolt (Waterloo/Waterloo) tallied one goal.
The Bengals led, 6-5, after the first 30 minutes, but were outshot 14-11 and outscored 10-8 in the second half, as the Athenas took the lead with eight minutes elapsed in the second. They had their biggest lead of the game with less than five minutes to play with a 15-11 advantage. Buffalo State stormed back, scoring the final three goals in the last two minutes, but couldn't complete the comeback.
Buffalo State held a slim 23-20 advantage in shots and
Ashley O'Brien (Penfield/Honeoye Falls-Lima) had four saves in the loss.
The Bengals will next play at Occidental Sunday at 1 p.m. (PST).
