ROCHESTER, NY—Cold temperatures and driving rain did not put a damper on the season opener for Buffalo State (1-0), as the Bengals cruised past host RIT (0-3), 17-7, in a non-conference battle this afternoon.

Kendyl Clarkson (Painted Post/Corning West) led Buffalo State with eight points, netting three goals and dishing out five assists. Karen Shaddock (Corning/Corning East) tallied seven points on three goals and four assists. Molly Seifritz (Syracuse/Henninger) scored four goals, Ashley Caporizzo (Liverpool/CNS) and Maria DeBolt (Waterloo/Waterloo) had three goals each, and freshman Becca Martinez (Syracuse/Corcoran) added a single goal.

Buffalo State scored the first five goals of the game and took a commanding 12-2 lead into the intermission. The Bengals coasted in the second half, finishing with a 24-22 advantage in shots. Ashley O'Brien (Penfield/Honeoye Falls-Lima) made seven saves in goal for Buffalo State in the win.

The Bengals will travel to Adrian, Mich. for the Bulldog Invitational this weekend, opening with Allegheny on Saturday at 3 p.m.
