BUFFALO, NY—Buffalo State (4-12) dropped a pair of non-conference games against visiting University of Rochester (17-9) today at Bengal Field, falling 8-1 and 6-3.
Buffalo State committed seven errors and gave up 14 hits in the opening game, and fell behind 5-0 in the second inning.
Laken Pogorzelski (Dunkirk/Dunkirk) doubled and later scored on an RBI-single by
Lindsay Goff (Patterson/Brewster) in the bottom of the second, but that would prove to complete the Buffalo State offense. Six different Bengals recorded one hit apiece in the loss.
Sam Tilkins (Grand Island/Grand Island) took the loss for Buffalo State, allowing five earned runs while striking out four.
Buffalo State out-hit the Yellowjackets 10-9 in the nightcap, but fell short on the scoreboard by the 6-3 count. The Bengals dug an early hole again, falling behind 4-0 in the third inning, before scoring twice in the bottom of the frame to get back in the game. After a two-run fifth by Rochester, Buffalo State attempted to rally in the bottom of the seventh inning, plating one run and brought the game-tying run to the plate, but could not complete the comeback. Goff was 2 for 3 with two RBIs, and
Sara Morse (Painted Post/Corning West) and
Kyrstin Lekki (N. Tonawanda/Niagara-Wheatfield) each went 2 for 4.
Aleesha Williams (Cheektowaga/Pioneer) was the losing pitcher, allowing nine hits and five earned runs, and drove in a run at the plate with a sacrifice fly.
Buffalo State will host a pair of SUNYAC games tomorrow against Brockport at 3 p.m.
