POTSDAM, NY—Buffalo State (6-12/4-2) battled back in the late game to complete the two-game sweep over host Potsdam (7-15/0-8), winning 7-2 and 8-5, today in a SUNYAC doubleheader.
Sam Strapason (Williamsville/Williamsville) belted a two-run double in the top of the first inning in the opener, and the Bengals never looked back, leading 7-0 before Potsdam scored its only two runs in the sixth.
Julie Joyce (E. Pembroke/Pembroke) went 2 for 2 with a double and two runs scored, and
Jordan Dudish (Grand Island/Grand Island) was 2 for 3 with an RBI.
Breanna Fenski (Cheektowaga/Maryvale) added a single and a pair of RBIs.
Kaylee Lekki (N. Tonawanda/Niagara-Wheatfield) earned the victory, scattering six hits with four strikeouts in the complete-game outing.
It was Potsdam getting off to the fast start in the late game, jumping out to a 3-0 first-inning lead. It remained that way until Buffalo State exploded for seven runs in the fourth inning on just three hits.
Kyrstin Lekki (N. Tonawanda/Niagara-Wheatfield) led the Bengals' bats, going 2 for 4 with a double and three RBIs, and Joyce and Fenski both tripled and scored for Buffalo State.
Sam Tilkins (Grand Island/Grand Island) earned the win, allowing eight hits and just two earned runs in 5 1/3 innings.
Aleesha Williams (Cheektowaga/Pioneer) registered the save, allowing no hits the rest of the way.
Buffalo State will conclude its “North Country” sojourn with another doubleheader tomorrow at Plattsburgh at 1 p.m.
