PLATTSBURGH, NY—Nationally-ranked No. 13 Plattsburgh (23-3/9-1) took a pair of SUNYAC games from visiting Buffalo State (6-14/4-4) today, winning 8-0 in six innings, before escaping with an 8-7 walk-off win in the late game.
Plattsburgh cruised past the Bengals in the opener, holding Buffalo State to just a pair of singles by
Jordan Dudish (Grand Island/Grand Island) and
Krista Baker (Dunkirk/Dunkirk) in the six-inning game.
Kaylee Lekki (N. Tonawanda/Niagara-Wheatfield) took the loss in the circle, giving up 11 hits and six earned runs.
Plattsburgh capitalized on a pair of Buffalo State errors in the bottom of the seventh inning to walk off with an 8-7 victory in the late game. After a five-run fifth inning sent the Cardinals ahead 7-2, Buffalo State stormed back with three runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh to even the score at 7-7 heading into the bottom of the last.
Sam Strapason (Williamsville/Williamsville) led the Bengals at the plate, collecting three of the team's seven hits, including double, and added a run scored.
Breanna Fenski (Cheektowaga/Maryvale) was 1 for 2 with a homer, three RBIs and two runs scored, and
Kyrstin Lekki (N. Tonawanda/Niagara-Wheatfield) was 1 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs.
Sam Tilkins (Grand Island/Grand Island) worked five innings and allowed six hits and seven runs, although just two were earned.
Aleesha Williams (Cheektowaga/Pioneer) was charged with the loss in relief, surrendering one hit and one unearned run in a 1 1/3 innings.
Buffalo State is next scheduled to host Geneseo on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
