BUFFALO, NY—Buffalo State (7-15/5-5) bounced back from a 7-0 loss in today's opening game to earn the split by blasting Geneseo (10-13/2-6) 10-1 in five innings in the nightcap.
Geneseo scored at least one run in each of the first four innings and then added another in the seventh in the opener to cruise to the 7-0 win. The Knights finished with 10 hits, compared to six by the Bengals.
Breanna Fenski (Cheektowaga/Maryvale) was 2 for 3 with a triple for Buffalo State, and
Sara Morse (Painted Post/Corning West) was 2 for 4.
Kaylee Lekki (N. Tonawanda/Niagara-Wheatfield) was the losing pitcher, allowing seven hits and five runs in three-plus innings, before being relieved by
Aleesha Williams (Cheektowaga/Pioneer), who allowed just three hits and one earned run in four innings.
Geneseo took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first in the late game, but Buffalo State took command from there, plating three runs in the first, five in the second and two more in the third. Both teams posted eight hits, but the Bengals took advantage of timely knock as well as three walks and three Geneseo errors.
Laken Pogorzelski (Dunkirk/Dunkirk) led Buffalo State's offense, going 2 for 3 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored.
Sam Strapason (Williamsville/Williamsville) was also 2 for 3 with an RBI and two runs, and
Kyrstin Lekki (N. Tonawanda/Niagara-Wheatfield) had a double and an RBI.
Sam Tilkins (Grand Island/Grand Island) pitched the complete game win and did not allow an earned run.
Buffalo State will host Brockport tomorrow at 3 p.m. The doubleheader was originally schedule for April 2.
