Fast Start Propels Women’s Lacrosse Past Oneonta in SUNYAC Opener

BUFFALO, NY— Buffalo State (6-3/1-0) raced out to a 6-1 lead and coasted to a 14-8 victory over visiting Oneonta (0-8/0-1) in the SUNYAC season-opener this afternoon at Coyer Field.

Molly Seifritz (Syracuse/Henninger) led the Bengals offensive attack with five goals. Kendyl Clarkson (Painted Post/Corning West) had five assists and also scored her 100th career goal. Karen Shaddock (Corning/Corning East) added two goals and three assists, and Ashley Caporizzo (Liverpool/CNS) scored three times. Mariah DeBolt (Waterloo/Waterloo) chipped in two goals, and Becca Martinez (Syracuse/Corcoran) also scored.

Buffalo State led 7-2 at the intermission, and scored the first goal of the second half to push the advantage to six goals. The Red Dragons cut the deficit back to five on two separate occasions, including 13-8 with just over seven minutes remaining, but would not get any closer. Buffalo State outshot Oneonta, 31-20. Ashley O'Brien (Penfield/Honeoye Falls-Lima) made six saves in the win.

Buffalo State will play another home conference game on Tuesday against Oswego at 4 p.m.
