CORTLAND, NY—Cortland (15-3/4-0) handed Buffalo State (2-10/0-2) a pair of losses in the Bengals' SUNYAC openers today, winning 5-0 and 8-1, today at Dragon Field.

Jordan Dudish (Grand Island/Grand Island) led off the opening game with a single, but Buffalo State only managed one more hit the rest of the game, off the bat of Sam Strapason (Williamsville/Williamsville North) in the sixth inning. Kaylee Lekki (N. Tonawanda/Niagara-Wheatfield) cruised on the mound, allowing just one run on four hits in the first five innings, but Cortland produced a four-hit, four-run sixth inning to pull away. Lekki finished with three strikeouts.

Cortland led 2-0 entering the fourth inning, before Kyrstin Lekki (N. Tonawanda/Niagara-Wheatfield) tripled and then scored on a sacrifice fly by Strapason. The Red Dragons thwarted any comeback bid, however, and plated three runs in the fourth and three more in the sixth to cruise to the win. Krista Baker (Dunkirk/Dunkirk) finished 2 for 3 for the Bengals, who had just five hits for the game. Sam Tilkins (Grand Island/Grand Island) took the loss, throwing four innings, allowing 10 hits and five runs. Aleesha Williams (Cheektowaga/Pioneer) pitched two innings of relief and surrendered three runs on three hits and two walks.

Buffalo State will remain in Central New York overnight and will play two more SUNYAC games tomorrow at Oswego beginning at 1 p.m.
