Buffalo State received an added vote of confidence as it prepares to make its fourth-consecutive SUNYAC playoff appearance on Friday, as it was ranked 19th in Division III in this week's Synapse Sports womenslacosse.com national poll. The Bengals enter the tournament as the No. 2 seed and will meet third-seeded Brockport in the second semifinal at 3 p.m. in Cortland.
The winner will meet the victor of the first semifinal between the host Red Dragons and fourth-place Geneseo in Saturday's championship game at noon.
Buffalo State features two of the league's top three scorers, led by
Karen Shaddock (Corning/Corning East) who paces the conference with 6.12 points-per-game. In 16 games, she has 50 goals and 48 assists for 98 points. Fellow junior
Kendyl Clarkson (Painted Post/Corning West) is third in the SUNYAC, averaging 5.93 points-per-game. She has played in 15 games and has piled up 26 goals and 63 assists for 89 points. Clarkson also leads all of Division III, averaging 4.2 assists-per-game.
The Bengals are looking for their first SUNYAC Championship. Buffalo State advanced to the title game in 2009, after defeating Geneseo 19-9 in the semis, before falling to Cortland 11-8 in the title game. Buffalo State is looking to avenge a 20-15 loss to Brockport in last season's semifinals. The Bengals defeated the Golden Eagles 18-2 in Buffalo earlier this year.
