CORTLAND, NY—Just 10 days after defeating Brockport 18-2 in a regular season contest, Buffalo State (12-5) saw its season come to an end with a 16-6 loss to that same Golden Eagle (10-5) team today in the SUNYAC semifinals at Cortland.
Mariah DeBolt (Waterloo/Waterloo) led Buffalo State with three goals.
Karen Shaddock (Corning/Corning East) added two goals and an assist, while
Kendyl Clarkson (Painted Post/Corning West) had a goal and two assists.
Ashley Caporizzo (Liverpool/CNS) also had two assists.
Buffalo State led 4-3 before Brockport scored nine-consecutive goals to close the first half and open the second period. The Bengals answered with two goals in 39 seconds to close the margin to 12-6 with just over 13 minutes remaining, but Brockport netted the final four goals of the game. In all, the Golden Eagles outscored the Bengals 13-2 over the final 34 minutes, 32 seconds.
Brockport held a 28-17 advantage in shots, and
Ashley O'Brien (Penfield/Honeoye Falls-Lima) made just six stops between the pipes. Buffalo State also committed 33 fouls, compared to 18 by the Golden Eagles. The Bengals' six-goal performance was its lowest offensive output of the season.
Brockport will play host Cortland, who defeated Geneseo, 23-8, in the other semifinal, in tomorrow's championship game at noon.
