Women’s Basketball Shuts Down Potsdam, 58-31

BUFFALO, NY--Buffalo State (13-2/6-2) scored the game's first 18 points and played stifling defense to defeat visiting Potsdam (4-11/2-6), 58-31, in a SUNYAC game this evening at the Sports Arena.

Bianca Smiley (Amherst/Sweet Home) netted a game-high 13 points and grabbed eight rebounds to pace Buffalo State.  Staci McElroy (Saratoga Springs/Saratoga Springs) added 12 points and nine boards, and Kala Crawford (Middle Falls/Saratoga Springs) and Barb Kiliszek (Depew/Lancaster) pitched in nine points apiece.

Bailey Weigel (Williamsville/Williamsville East) led Potsdam with10 points and seven rebounds.

Buffalo State opened the game with an 18-0 run, before Potsdam finally got on the scoreboard 10:38 into the contest.  The Bengals led 33-16 at the intermission, and never let the Bears threaten in the final 20 minutes.  Potsdam committed 24 turnovers, compared to 14 by Buffalo State, and the Bengals held a 45-34 rebounding advantage.  Buffalo State shot 37-percent from the field, while Potsdam connected on just 25-percent of its attempts.

Buffalo State will host Plattsburgh tomorrow for another conference game at 2 p.m.
