BUFFALO, NY—Buffalo State (1-1/0-1) dominated the third period with a 22-1 advantage in shots, but Brockport's (1-1/1-0) lone shot found the Bengals' empty net as the visitors skated away with a 4-2 victory in the SUNYAC opener for both teams tonight at the Ice Arena.

Brockport jumped out to a 2-0 lead late in the opening frame before Nick Melligan (Sanborn/Niagara-Wheatfield) scored his first of two goals to cut the lead in half with just over two minutes remaining in the first.  The Golden Eagles outshot Buffalo State 15-8 in the opening 20 minutes. 

Buffalo State evened the score just 2:01 into the second when Melligan slid a low shot on a 2-on-1 to the back of the net.  Brockport netted the game-winner midway through the period, however, when a “seeing-eye” shot found its way from the point inside the left post while each team had a man in the penalty box. 

The Bengals continued to fire pucks on goal, but could not break through the rest of the way, and the Golden Eagles sealed the win with the empty-net goal with 45 seconds remaining.

Buffalo State outshot Brockport 44-25 for the game. Kevin Carr (Unionville, ON/Unionville) made 21 stops for the Bengals. 

The Bengals will host Geneseo for another SUNYAC game tomorrow at 7 p.m.
