FREDONIA, NY—Nick Melligan (Sanborn, NY/Niagara-Wheatfield) and Mike Zannella (Ithaca, NY/Ithaca) scored twice each to lead visiting Buffalo State (4-5-1/3-4-1) to a 7-3 victory over Fredonia (4-6/3-5) in a SUNYAC game tonight at Steele Hall.

Brett Hope (Blenheim, ON/Blenheim) added a goal and an assist, and Zach Hale (Sandy, UT/Liberty (CO)) and Matt Bessing (Elma, NY/Cheektowaga) also scored for the Bengals.  Drew Klin (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster), Trevor McKinney (Oakwood, ON/Sinclair), and Ben Kramer (Great Neck, NY/Great Neck South) collected two assists apiece, and Melligan also had a helper. 

Melligan netted the game's first two goals, including opening the scoring just 10 seconds into the contest.  Zannella added his two tallies just 1:20 apart later in the period as the Bengals skated to a 4-0 lead heading into the first intermission.  Buffalo State pushed its lead to 5-0 in the second before Fredonia finally got on the board.  In the final frame, Fredonia closed the gap to 5-2, but the teams traded goals down the stretch and the Bengals coasted to the four-goal win.

The Bengals held a 28-26 advantage in shots, as Kevin Carr (Unionville, ON/Unionville) made 23 stops between the pipes for Buffalo State.  The Bengals finished 4 of 8 on the power play, while Fredonia was 3 for 5 with the extra attacker.

Buffalo State will visit Utica for a non-conference game tomorrow at 7 p.m.
