BUFFALO, NY— St. John Fisher (2-1) netted the last five goals of the game, but the Cardinals rally fell short as Buffalo State (3-0) held on for a 13-12 win in a non-conference game this afternoon at Coyer Field.
Kendyl Clarkson (Painted Post/Corning West) recorded a game-high seven points on one goal and six assists.
Karen Shaddock (Corning/Corning East) had four goals and one assist.
Ashley Caporizzo (Liverpool/Cicero-N. Syracuse) finished with three goals and two assists, while
Becca Martinez (Syracuse/Corcoran) and
Mariah DeBolt (Waterloo/Waterloo) recorded two goals apiece.
Jenn Shaddock (Corning/Corning East) also scored for Buffalo State.
Buffalo State scored the first three goals of the game to take an early 3-0 lead, and took a 6-2 advantage into halftime. St. John Fisher turned on the offense in the second half, outscoring the Bengals, 10-7, including scoring five goals in the final six minutes to get to within one, but the Cardinals were unable to complete the comeback with just 11 seconds left on the clock.
St. John Fisher held a 29-20 advantage in shots and a 17-14 advantage in ground balls. Buffalo State finished with 14 draw controls compared to the Cardinals 12.
Colleen George (Johnson City/Maine-Endwell) made four saves in net for the win.
Buffalo State will remain at home and host No. 7 Hamilton Thursday at 4 p.m.
