CLERMONT, Fla.—
Kendyl Clarkson (Painted Post/Corning West) led the Bengals with two goals and four assists but it wasn't enough as No. 7 Colby (4-0) defeated Buffalo State (4-1), 17-8, under the lights at the National Training Center in Clermont, Fla.
Karen Shaddock (Corning/Corning East) finished with three goals.
Ashley Caporizzo (Liverpool/Cicero-N. Syracuse),
Meghan Farrell (Endicott/Union Endicott) and
Niki Paulhardt (Hanover, MN/Oswego) each had one goal apiece. Clarkson's six points also made her just the second player in program history to reach 300 career points, as she is currently second on the all-time scoring list with 301.
Colby scored six unanswered goals in the first half to take a 9-3 lead into intermission. The Bengals rallied in the second half, scoring four unanswered in a five minute span and got to within six when Farrell scored her first collegiate goal to make the score, 14-8. The Mules netted the final three goals of the game to close out all scoring.
Ground balls were even at 8-8 and Buffalo State held a 15-12 advantage in draw controls. Colby outshot the Bengals, 31-25, and
Colleen George (Johnson City/Maine-Endwell) made eight saves in goal for Buffalo State.
The Bengals will face nationally-ranked Amherst Tuesday at 4 p.m.
