Box Score (BOX SCORE)

CLERMONT, Fla.— Buffalo State (4-2) faced its third nationally-ranked team in as many games and dropped its second in row, falling to No. 11 Amherst (3-1), 16-9, in a non-conference game at the National Training Center.

Karen Shaddock (Corning/Corning East) and Kendyl Clarkson (Painted Post/Corning West) led the Bengals with three goals and two assists apiece.  Becca Martinez (Syracuse/Corcoran) finished with two goals, while Ashley Caporizzo (Liverpool/Cicero-N. Syracuse) had one.

Buffalo State battled back from a two-goal deficit to tie the game at 2-2 midway through the first half, but two three-goals spurts by Amherst gave the Lord Jeffs an 8-5 advantage at halftime.  The Bengals got to within four with under ten minutes to play in the second but couldn't get any closer as they were outscored, 8-4, in the final stanza.

Amherst led all stat categories, with a 26-22 advantage in shots, 14-9 advantage in ground balls and 15-11 advantage in draw controls.  The Bengals committed 12 turnovers compared to nine by the Lord Jeffs.  Colleen George (Johnson City/Maine-Endwell) had three saves in the loss.

Buffalo State will next play Virginia Wesleyan on Thursday at 10:30 a.m.
