CLERMONT, Fla.—Buffalo State (4-4) defeated Colby (1-6), 6-2, but dropped an 11-8 decision to Tufts (9-1) under the lights tonight at USA National Training Center.
Colby scored a run in the first and added another in the second to take a 2-0 lead, but that would be all of the offense for the Mules. Buffalo State responded with six runs in the next three innings, including a three-run fourth to pull away.
Kyrstin Lekki (N. Tonawanda/Niagara-Wheatfield) led the Bengals, going 2 for 4 with a double, a homer and two RBIs.
Breanna Fenski (Cheektowaga/Maryvale) was 2 for 3 with two RBIs and a stolen base, and
Aleesha Williams (Cheektowaga/Pioneer) finished 2 for 2 with a run scored while earning the win in the circle, scattering eight hits.
Buffalo State exploded for six hits and seven runs in the third inning against Tufts to take an 8-6 lead, but the Jumbos continued to run the bases, adding three more runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth to complete the scoring. Williams paced the Bengals offense, going 3 for 4 with a double and three RBIs. Fenski was 2 for 4 with two doubles and two RBIs, and
Brieanna Brink (Buffalo/Sacred Heart) had a double and two RBIs.
Kaylee Lekki (N. Tonawanda/Niagara-Wheatfield) suffered the loss, surrendering seven hits and nine runs in 3 1/3 innings.
Maddie Coneys (Clifton Park/Catholic Central) came on in relief and allowed three hits and two runs over the final 2 2/3 innings.
Buffalo State will wrap up its spring trip with games against Plymouth State and Williams tomorrow at 9 and 11 a.m. respectively.
