CLERMONT, Fla.—Buffalo State (5-5) made short work of Plymouth State (2-7), winning 9-0 in five innings, before dropping back to .500 with an 11-5 loss to Williams (3-5) in today's final game at USA National Training Center.
Freshman
Maddie Coneys (Clifton Park/Catholic Central) tossed a two-hitter for her first collegiate shutout, and the Bengals scored three runs in the third and broke the game wide open with six more in the fourth.
Breanna Fenski (Cheektowaga/Maryvale) went 3 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored, and
Kyrstin Lekki (N. Tonawanda/Niagara-Wheatfield) had a double and two RBIs.
A six-run third inning doomed the Bengals in the late game against Williams. After trailing 8-0, the Bengals battled back and cut the deficit to 8-5 before the Ephs plated three more runs in the seventh to put the game out of reach.
Shelly Maggard (Niagara Falls/Niagara-Wheatfield) led Buffalo State, going 3 for 3 with a triple and an RBI.
Kyrstin Lekki (N. Tonawanda/Niagara-Wheatfield) and
Sam Strapason (Williamsville/Williamsville South) each went 2 for 4.
Kaylee Lekki (N. Tonawanda/Niagara-Wheatfield) started in the circle and took the loss, giving up three hits and five runs in two innings.
Aleesha Williams (Cheektowaga/Pioneer) came on in relief and allowed eight hits and six runs.
Buffalo State will travel home tomorrow and will begin to prepare for a SUNYAC-opening doubleheader against Plattsburgh at home next Friday.
