BUFFALO, NY—Buffalo State (6-6/1-1) bounced back after a 9-0 loss in the opening game to salvage a split with a 4-2 win over visiting Plattsburgh (10-5/1-1) as the SUNYAC season kicked off today at Bengal Field.

Plattsburgh outhit the Bengals 14-3 en route to the 9-0 six-inning win in the opener.  The Cardinals led 2-0 after the fourth inning, but then broke it open with two runs in the fifth and five more in the sixth.  The Bengals had a pair of singles by Aleesha Williams (Cheektowaga/Pioneer) and Breanna Fenski (Cheektowaga/Maryvale) in the fourth and got a double from Kyrstin Lekki (N. Tonawanda/Niagara-Wheatfield) in the sixth, but could not push a run home.  Williams took the loss in the circle, allowing four runs (two earned) on nine hits in four innings.  Kaylee Lekki (N. Tonawanda/Niagara-Wheatfield) threw the final two innings, surrendering five runs (three earned) on five hits.

The Bengals bats warmed up as the snow began to fall in the late game, and Buffalo State converted seven hits into four runs.  The Cardinals managed nine hits, but were only able to plate a run in the first and another in the sixth.  Buffalo State scored single runs in the first and second and added two more in the fourth.  Shelly Maggard (Niagara Falls/Niagara-Wheatfield) led the Bengal bats, going 2 for 3 with a double, a triple, and RBI and a run scored.  Freshman Kate Brownell (Batavia/Oakfield-Alabama) was 1 for 3 with an RBI and a run, and Williams also had an RBI single.  Maddie Coneys (Clifton Park/Catholic Central) improved to 4-0 on the mound with a complete game performance, allowing just a single earned run.

Buffalo State will host another SUNYAC twin bill tomorrow against Potsdam beginning at noon.
