BUFFALO, NY—Buffalo State (8-6/3-1) scratched out a 5-2 win in the opener and then exploded for an 11-0 five-inning win in the second game in a SUNYAC doubleheader against visiting Potsdam (7-8/0-3) today at Bengal Field.
Potsdam took a 2-0 lead in the fourth inning, before its defense imploded, committing six errors in the fifth and sixth innings which the Bengals were able to convert into five runs. Four different Bengals produced one hit apiece, including
Kyrstin Lekki (N. Tonawanda/Niagara-Wheatfield) who finished 1 for 1 with a two RBI double and a run scored.
Breanna Fenski (Cheektowaga/Maryvale) and
Jordan Dudish (Grand Island/Grand Island) also each had a double and a run scored. Freshman
Maddie Coneys (Clifton Park/Catholic Central) pushed her record to 5-0 with the win, scattering just four hits and striking out five.
Buffalo State took matters into its own hands in the second game, scoring all 11 runs in a 14-at-bat third inning that featured nine hits and four home runs, including a pair by Lekki. She finished the game 2 for 3 with the two long shots and had five RBIs.
Shelly Maggard (Niagara Falls/Niagara-Wheatfield) was 2 for 4 with her first collegiate home run, a triple and four RBIs.
Aleesha Williams (Cheektowaga/Pioneer) added a homer, going 2 for 3, and was the winning pitcher, tossing a one-hitter with no walks.
Lindsay Goff (Patterson/Brewster) chipped in a double and two runs scored.
Buffalo State will travel to RIT on Wednesday for a non-conference doubleheader starting at 3 p.m.
