Karen Shaddock (Corning/Corning East) tallied a school-record 10 goals and tied the school's mark for points in a game with 12 to lead Buffalo State (9-5/2-3) to a decisive 17-11 victory over visiting Geneseo (6-5/2-3) in a SUNYAC game today at Coyer Field
Shaddock, who entered the game with 394 career points, also became the first Bengal to score 400 career points.
Kendyl Clarkson (Painted Post/Corning West) dished out a game-high seven assists, while
Niki Paulhardt (Hanover, MN/Oswego) and
Mariah DeBolt (Waterloo/Waterloo) added two goals each to support the Bengals' attack.
Becca Martinez (Syracuse/Corcoran) chipped in a goal and an assist, and
Ashley Caporizzo (Liverpool/CNS) and
Jenn Shaddock (Corning/Corning East) also scored.
Buffalo State scored the game's first three goals and led 5-1 in the early going. The Knights closed the deficit to 7-5 later in the opening period, but the Bengals pushed the advantage to 9-5 at the intermission. Geneseo never came closer than three in the second frame, and the Bengals used six-straight goals to pull away before the Knights scored the game's final three goals.
Buffalo State outshot Geneseo, 35-28,
Colleen George (Johnson City/Maine-Endwell) came up with 13 saves between the pipes for the Bengals. Buffalo State forced 23 Geneseo turnovers, while committing just 14, to overcome an 18-12 deficit in draw controls.
Buffalo State will host Potsdam on Saturday at 1 p.m.
