Softball Scores 21 Runs, Rips Nazareth

Breanna Fenski ripped a grand slam in the opening game
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 BUFFALO, NY—Buffalo State (19-15) raced around the bases and swept a non-conference twin bill against Nazareth (8-24) at Bengal Field today, winning 12-5 and 9-1 in five innings.

In the first game, Nazareth broke a 1-1 tie with three runs in the top of the fourth, but the Bengals bats finally came to life in the bottom of the frame.  Buffalo State took the lead with six-hit, six-run inning, highlighted by a two-run homer by Sam Strapason (Williamsville/Williamsville South) to straight-away centerfield.  The Bengals put the game away two innings later with a five-run sixth that featured a grand slam by Breanna Fenski (Cheektowaga/Maryvale).  Kyrstin Lekki (N. Tonawanda/Niagara-Wheatfield) finished 3 for 4 with two RBIs.  Strapason, Fenski, Aleesha Williams (Cheektowaga/Pioneer) and Marcella Ossa (Williamsville/Clarence) all collected two hits apiece.  Williams also had three RBIs and picked up the save with 2 1/3 innings of scoreless relief.  Kaylee Lekki (N. Tonawanda/Niagara-Wheatfield) earned the win in the circle, allowing just six hits and three earned runs in 5 1/3 innings.

Buffalo State needed just six hits and capitalized on five Nazareth errors to plate nine runs in the abbreviated late game.  The Bengals pushed the lead to 8-1 with a four-run fourth inning, and then ended the game invoking the eight-run mercy rule with a bases-loaded walk with one out in the fifth.  Kyrstin Lekki hit her school record 19th double of the season, and Strapason finished 2 for 3 with two runs scored.  Maddie Coneys (Clifton Park/Catholic Central) hurled the win, tossing a five-inning complete-game two-hitter.

Buffalo State will return to SUNYAC play with a doubleheader at Brockport on Friday.
