Box Score BROCKPORT, NY—Brockport (9-4/4-3) opened the contest with a 5-0 run, but visiting Buffalo State (11-5/4-3) used a 5-0 stretch of its own to close the game with
Mariah DeBolt (Waterloo/Waterloo) netting the game-winner with 6:42 remaining in a 13-12 victory this afternoon. The win positions Buffalo State to secure a berth in the SUNYAC playoffs with a home win over New Paltz on Saturday.
Ashley Caporizzo (Liverpool/CNS) had three goals and an assist, and
Kendyl Clarkson (Painted Post/Corning West) had five assists to pace the Bengals offense.
Karen Shaddock (Corning/Corning East) also scored three times, including her 81st of the year to set a new Buffalo State single-season record. DeBolt and
Becca Martinez (Syracuse/Corcoran) each scored twice, and
Brittany Nagowski (Lancaster/Lancaster)
Niki Paulhardt (Hanover, MN/Oswego) and
Jenn Shaddock (Corning/Corning East) also scored.
Buffalo State fell into a 5-0 hole to open the game, but rallied to cut the deficit to 6-5 at halftime. The Brockport lead swelled to 12-8, but the Bengals did not allow the Golden Eagles to score again for the final 18:49 of the contest. Buffalo State mounted a 5-0 run over a span of 11 minutes, 35 seconds to take its first lead, and was able to successfully stall down the stretch to seal the win.
Buffalo State dominated draw controls, holding a 19-7 advantage, enabling it to overcome committing 17 turnovers, compared to Brockport's seven. The Golden Eagles also maintained a narrow 27-26 edge in shots.
Buffalo State will wrap up the SUNYAC regular season at home on Saturday against New Paltz at 1 p.m.
