Box Score 2 GENESEO, NY— Geneseo (19-17/10-6) leapfrogged Buffalo State (19-17/9-7) in the SUNYAC standings today with a two-game sweep, defeating the visiting Bengals 4-2 and 2-1 in a twin bill at Vic Raschi Field.
The Bengals took a 1-0 lead in the opener on a sacrifice fly by
Aleesha Williams (Cheektowaga/Pioneer) that scored
Kyrstin Lekki (N. Tonawanda/Niagara-Wheatfield) in the third inning. Geneseo pulled ahead in the fourth, however, with a four-hit, four-run inning and held on for the win.
Brieanna Brink (Buffalo/Sacred Heart) had an RBI single in the fifth, but the Bengals could not complete a comeback. Buffalo State advanced runners to second and third with one out in the seventh, but a pop out and a ground out ended the game.
Marcella Ossa (Williamsville/Clarence) had two of Buffalo State's six hits, including a double and scored a run. Williams suffered the loss, surrendering seven hits in four runs in four innings of work.
Kaylee Lekki (N. Tonawanda/Niagara-Wheatfield) threw the final two innings of scoreless relief.
Geneseo took a 1-0 lead in the fourth inning of the late game, but Buffalo State loaded the bases with no outs in the top of the fifth. The Knights escaped the jam allowing just one run on an RBI fielder choice by Brink. Geneseo then plated the winning run in the bottom of that frame and got out of another jam in the seventh to secure the win. The Bengals put their first two batters on in the final frame, but could not plate the equalizer. Both teams finished with six hits.
Taylor Swiatek (East Aurora/Orchard Park) was 2 for 3 with a double and a run, and
Lindsay Goff (Patterson/Brewster) also had a double.
Maddie Coneys (Clifton Park/Catholic Central) took the hard-luck loss, tossing a complete game with seven strikeouts.
Buffalo State will wrap up its regular-season schedule tomorrow with a doubleheader at Brockport at noon. The Bengals can clinch a SUNYAC playoff berth with one win. Buffalo State can also get in the playoffs with either a single Oswego loss in their final four games against New Paltz and Oneonta, or a Fredonia loss at Geneseo.
