Buffalo State Women’s Lacrosse Routs New Paltz, 22-10; Clinches SUNYAC Playoff Berth

Box Score BUFFALO, NY— Buffalo State (12-5/5-3) clinched the No. 3 seed in the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) playoffs with a 22-10 rout of visiting New Paltz (7-10/2-6) in the conference season finale this afternoon at Coyer Field.

Karen Shaddock (Corning/Corning East) set a new school record for points in a game with 13, on nine goals and four assists, to lead Buffalo State. Kendyl Clarkson (Painted Post/Corning West) bolstered the Bengals' attack with nine assists.  Ashley Caporizzo (Liverpool/Cicero-N. Syracuse) finished with four goals and two assists.  Becca Martinez (Syracuse/Corcoran) had four goals. Jenn Shaddock (Corning/Corning East) and Niki Paulhardt (Hanover, MN/Oswego) chipped in two goals apiece and Brittany Nagowski (Lancaster/Lancaster) added one marker.

Buffalo State dominated play in the first half, taking a 12-5 lead into the intermission.  The Hawks cut the deficit to four with 24:44 left to play in the second, after scoring four unanswered, but would not get any closer.  The Bengals recorded the last seven goals of the game to close out the scoring. 

The Bengals held a 22-17 advantage in ground balls and committed just 14 turnovers, compared to New Paltz' 24.  Colleen George (Johnson City/Maine-Endwell) recorded six saves for her 11th win of the season.  Jamie Handley (Auburn/Auburn) also contributed on the defensive end, with four ground balls and two caused turnovers. 

Caporizzo's four goals put her over the century mark in career goals, as she now has 101.  Clarkson also recorded her 100th point of the season, and currently has 109 points on 30 goals and 78 assists and the Bengals' 22 goals tied a school record for goals in a game.

Buffalo State will face No. 2 Fredonia in the semifinal round of the SUNYAC Championships at Cortland on Friday at 3 p.m.
